Lucian Toma received the B.Sc. and Ph.D degree in electrical power engineering from the University “Politehnica” of Bucharest in 2002 and 2010, respectively. Currently he is professor at the same university, at the Department of Electrical Power Systems. Between 2021 and 2024 dr. Toma was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Energy Engineering. His fields of interest include power system dynamics, power electronic applications in power systems, artificial intelligence techniques applications in power systems, smart grids, and electricity markets. Dr. Toma is coauthor of 5 books (of which two published by IEEE Press & Wiley, and one published by Springer), and over 120 papers published in journals and conference proceedings. He was engaged in 10 international (including H2020-RESERVE, H2020-Storage4Grid, H2020-NobelGrid) 15 national research grants, and 12 projects for industry. From 2021 to 2025 he was the Chair of the IEEE Romania Section and the Chair of the IEEE PES Romania Chapter. Dr. Toma is the recipient of the 2017 anniversary award „Remus Răduleț” presented by the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, the 2013 year award presented by AGIR (General Engineers Association from Romania), and IEEE Outstanding Engineer Awards presented by IEEE PES Romania Chapter in 2016. From 2014 to 2021, dr. Toma was the representative of Romania in the CIGRE B4 Study Committee on “DC systems and power electronics”, while since 2022 he is representative in the SC CIGRE C4 „Power system technical performance”. In 2009 he co-organized the IEEE Bucharest PowerTech conference.
